- Copy your
linktr.ee/yournameURL, open Instagram, tap your profile, then Edit profile, paste the URL into the Website field, and tap Done. - You can add up to five clickable links from one Linktree page using Instagram's "Links" feature — but pasting a single Linktree URL is still the simplest setup.
- Use the Story link sticker to point individual Stories at specific buttons inside your Linktree page.
What You'll Need Before You Start
- A live Linktree page with your URL handy. If you don't have one, follow how to make a Linktree first.
- The Instagram app on your phone or instagram.com on a desktop browser.
- About 1 minute.
Step 1: Copy Your Linktree URL
Grab your URL from the Linktree dashboard
Open your Linktree dashboard. The public URL — linktr.ee/yourname — sits at the top with a one-tap copy button. Tap it. Make sure you copy the public URL, not the admin URL (which contains /admin/).
Step 2: Open Instagram and Edit Your Profile
Tap Profile, then Edit profile
In the Instagram app, tap the Profile icon in the bottom-right corner. Tap Edit profile. You'll see a list of profile fields — name, username, pronouns, gender, bio, links.
Step 3: Add Your Linktree URL to the Links Section
Tap Links, add a new link, paste your Linktree URL
Tap Links (Instagram replaced the single "Website" field with a multi-link section in 2023). Tap Add external link, paste linktr.ee/yourname into the URL field, give it a clear title (e.g., "My Links" or just leave it blank to show only the URL), then tap Done.
You can paste up to five different URLs here. Most creators still use a single Linktree URL because it's easier to update and it gives detailed click data per button. If you split into five Instagram-native links, you lose that consolidated tracking.
Step 4: Verify Your Linktree Is Live in Your Bio
View your profile from a follower's perspective
Tap back to your profile. Your link should now appear as a tappable button (or a small chain-link icon if Instagram shortened the display). Open your profile from a logged-out browser or a friend's phone to confirm it's clickable from the outside.
Adding Linktree Links to Instagram Stories
Stories are where most Instagram traffic actually clicks. To add a Linktree button — or a specific destination from inside your Linktree — to a Story:
- Open the Story creation tool (camera icon → swipe to Story).
- Add your photo or video, then tap the sticker icon.
- Select Link.
- Paste either your full
linktr.ee/yournameURL or a deeper link to a specific button on your Linktree page. - Customise the sticker style and position, then publish the Story.
You can add link stickers to as many Stories as you like; there's no per-account cap.
Adding Linktree to Instagram Reels and Posts
Instagram still doesn't make captions clickable. The conventional fix is the same on Reels and Posts: write "link in bio" in the caption and trust the viewer to tap to your profile.
For very high-conversion campaigns (paid promotion, big launches), some creators DM the Linktree URL directly to people who comment a specific keyword on the post — automated via tools like ManyChat. The URL still has to be reached via DM or bio; captions remain plain text.
Why Your Linktree Might Not Be Showing on Your Profile
- You saved an admin URL by mistake. Make sure the URL is
linktr.ee/yourname, notlinktr.ee/admin/. - The link looks shortened. Instagram displays long URLs with a small chain icon — that's normal, the link is still clickable.
- You haven't tapped Done. The Edit profile screen needs an explicit save tap.
- The page is private. Private accounts still show bio links to approved followers, but if you switched to public mid-edit, refresh the app.
- Cache. Force-close and reopen the Instagram app, or test from a logged-out browser.
What to Do After Your Linktree Is Live
Three habits separate Linktree pages that actually drive traffic from those that just exist:
- Update the top button to match the latest post. If your most recent Reel pushes a sale, the sale link is at the top of your Linktree the day you post — not buried at button five.
- Use Story link stickers for high-stakes campaigns. Stickers convert better than the bio link because they're embedded in the content. The bio link is for evergreen traffic.
- Filter Linktree analytics by referrer = Instagram. Identify which buttons your Instagram audience actually taps. Reorder accordingly.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many links can I have in my Instagram bio in 2026?
Up to five. Instagram replaced the single Website field with a multi-link section in 2023. Most creators still use a single Linktree URL because it's easier to update and consolidates analytics in one place.
Does Linktree work for Instagram Stories?
Yes. Use the Link sticker on a Story and paste either your Linktree URL or a deep link to a specific button. There's no cap on Story link stickers.
Why doesn't my Linktree show in my Instagram bio?
Common causes: you saved an admin URL by mistake, you forgot to tap Done, app cache, or the URL is being displayed as a chain icon (still clickable, just shortened visually). Test from a logged-out browser to confirm.
Can I track Linktree clicks from Instagram specifically?
Yes. Open Linktree's analytics tab and filter by referrer = Instagram. The Pro tier shows the breakdown by source; the free plan shows lifetime click counts only.
Does Linktree affect my Instagram reach or shadowban?
There's no public evidence that bio links affect reach or trigger shadowbans. Reach is driven by post engagement, not by what's in your bio.
Can I add Linktree to Instagram Reels captions?
Captions on Reels and feed posts are not clickable on Instagram. The standard pattern is "link in bio" in the caption.
- Copy your Linktree URL, paste it in Instagram → Edit profile → Links → Add external link → Done. One minute.
- Instagram now allows up to five bio links — most creators still use one Linktree URL for easier updating and consolidated analytics.
- Story link stickers convert better than bio links for high-stakes campaigns. Use both.
- Filter Linktree analytics by referrer = Instagram to see what your Instagram audience actually clicks.
