- Open Instagram → tap your profile picture → Edit profile → Links → Add external link → paste your URL → Done. The link is now clickable on your profile. To share more than five destinations, point one slot at a link-in-bio page.
The 30-second version
- Tap your profile picture to open your profile.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Tap Links, then Add external link.
- Paste your URL.
- Tap Done.
Your link now appears as a tappable URL below your bio text. Visitors tap it and your destination opens inside Instagram’s in-app browser.
Full step-by-step guide
Decide what to link to
Instagram allows up to five links, but only the top one displays prominently below your bio. Pick the single most important destination — usually your shop, your latest launch, or a link-in-bio page that holds everything else. Most creators use a link-in-bio page so they never have to change the URL in Instagram itself.
UniLink builds these pages free with no watermark. Create yours in three minutes.
Open your Instagram profile
Open the Instagram app and tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner. This takes you to your own profile.
Tap Edit profile
Tap the Edit profile button below your bio. This opens the profile editor where you can change your name, bio text, and links.
Tap the Links section
Scroll to the Links row and tap it. Tap Add external link. A field opens where you can paste a URL and (optionally) give it a custom title — “Shop my course” instead of a raw URL, for example.
Paste your URL and save
Paste your URL into the field. Tap Done. The link is now live on your profile and shows as a tappable URL below your bio text.
Why your bio link might not be clickable
The most common reason a link in an Instagram bio is not clickable is that it was typed into the bio text instead of the Links field. Instagram does not turn URLs in bio text into hyperlinks — they just show as plain text.
Tap Edit profile, find the Links section, paste your URL there, then save. Remove the URL from the bio text — it is redundant.
How to add multiple links to your Instagram bio
Instagram now allows up to five links in the Links section. To add more:
- Edit profile → Links → tap Add external link.
- Paste a URL and optional title.
- Repeat up to five times.
- Drag to reorder — the top link displays prominently below your bio.
For more than five destinations, point one of the slots at a link-in-bio page. UniLink pages support 40+ block types, so a single bio link can cover unlimited shop products, content pieces, courses, and contact forms. You update the page; the bio link never has to change.
Track who clicks your Instagram bio link
Instagram shows basic click counts on Business and Creator accounts. To see which post drove the click, what country the visitor is from, and what they did after landing — connect Meta Pixel to your link-in-bio page.
UniLink supports Meta Pixel on the free plan: paste your Pixel ID into your page settings and start tracking full-funnel conversions from Instagram.
Best practices for your Instagram bio link
- One destination per link slot. Five focused links convert better than five generic ones.
- Use custom titles. “Shop the new collection” beats a raw URL — Instagram displays the title, not the URL.
- Mention it in posts and Stories. “Link in bio” is the universal call-to-action.
- Track everything. Connect Meta Pixel and Google Analytics to see what actually converts.
- Update the destination, not the URL. Use a link-in-bio page so launches and promotions go live without editing your Instagram profile.
- Edit profile → Links → Add external link → paste URL → Done.
- URLs in bio text are not clickable — they must go in the Links field.
- Instagram supports up to 5 links; add more via a link-in-bio page.
- Connect Meta Pixel for full-funnel attribution from Instagram.
